Top Knot’s Take on Boho Bridal
You. Are. Beautiful.
Alright folks, we’ve got something serious to share, but not something you should take too seriously. We’re talking about a common request we get: “I want a Boho look.”
The “Bohemian Bride” has become a major trend in bridal style in recent years. From a fashion perspective, that means messy braids, earth-tone makeup, flower crowns, bare feet, bell-sleeves and lace – lots of lace.
It’s a pretty look, right? Sure, but technically, Bohemian is not a look, it’s an eccentric lifestyle from the 19 th century. Bohemian does not represent romantic, beachy, or beautiful. In fact, it’s the opposite. Let’s do a quick history lesson, shall we?
“Bohemianism” is the practice of an unconventional lifestyle, often in the company of like-minded people who have no permanent ties. It was a word used to describe the non-traditional ways of impoverished artists, writers, musicians and actors in European cities. Bohemians are historically living in voluntary poverty, constantly struggling to find their next meal.
Vagabond chic? Not the look we’d recommend on your wedding day. It’s ironic that one of the most popular wedding trends is based on the anti-establishment, unorthodox values of unstable nomads from centuries ago. A real Bohemian would not have stepped foot in a traditional wedding setting.
Now that we’ve sorted that out, let’s talk about the look that Boho Brides are trying to achieve, and call it what it is: The Understated Bride. Natural and relaxed, but stylish. Undone and laid-back, but stunning. This is for the bride who wants to feel like herself on her big day, at ease, beautiful and confident.
Our Top Knot artists have the expertise to create this look – dreamy and gorgeous – all while practicing personal hygiene. Say yes to understated realness and no to grubby Boho. The next time someone mentions their Boho Chic look, refer to the above history lesson, and have fun schooling them – there was nothing chic about the Bohemians.
